The Hatchs...

Here's some interesting facts to note about the Orrin Hatch family:

Orrin Hatch is a proponent of heavy-handed and overly-broad interpretations of "ownership" rights per "intellectual property" and the like. Most have talked about this being due to his own forays into the music business.

Here's some other interesting things to note about this situation.

One of the front-runners in pressing "intellectual property rights" is a local Utah company SCO, who is suing various users and developers of the Linux operating system. They claim that it is based on Unix code they now own (due to acquisition).

Their legal representative? Brent Hatch, son of Borrin' Orrin.

Hmmm...

Also interesting, I'm told, is that son of a Hatch is a member of the Federalist Society, a somewhat libertarian group.

So...Brent, son of Orrin, is pushing to have intellectual property rights strengthened at the cost of open market free trade by pursuing the lawsuits of SCO, Inc.

All the while, Brent is a member of a free-market libertarian group. "It's a matter of principle" is it Mr. Hatch?

I'm sure it is a matter of principal for you.
